Personal PR is top of the marketing to-do list for those CEOs, entrepreneurs, company founders, business owners, and talented individuals who want to raise their profile, and have the personality to match.
In the early part of my career, I remember talking to business owners who wanted relative anonymity and were keen to let their brands ‘speak for themselves’. Not anymore. 24-hour news coverage and social media have brought the people behind the brands to our attention, and we’re hungry to find out more.
But without a strategic PR plan in place, or without the correct media training and guidance, it can have disastrous consequences. Think about how many successful brands have come undone because of an ill-timed, or ill-conceived comment on social media from their founder.
With accountants to look after your finances and lawyers to handle your legal affairs, it makes sense to employ the services of a personal public relations consultant, like me, to work with you on your personal branding.
So what can personal PR activity do for you? It can help you build your reputation, gain exposure within your industry, change public opinion and manage a crisis if things go wrong. It can help shine a spotlight on your business and ensure the message you’re communicating is powerful and consistent.
“I’m well aware of Jill Kent’s extraordinary capabilities, work ethic and exceptional talent. In a very short time, Jill managed to have us featured in major outlets, both in print and online, in the UK and internationally; she brought in continuous television coverage; she even secured me my own monthly column in a magazine; and was at all times forthright, honest, strategic and focused. ‘Superstar’ sums it up!” – Ann Kaplan Mulholland, Founder & CEO, Lympne Castle Management
Before I start any personal PR activity, I spend time getting to know you and your skillset and discovering what you want to achieve from a personal public relations campaign. How did you get where you are today? What makes you unique and what are your strengths? What remarkable story do you have to tell?
How are you currently perceived in your industry? How would you like to be known? Do you want to be the go-to expert on TV and a ‘talking head’ for your industry? Or a regular speaker at conferences? Would you rather see yourself in the business pages of the broadsheets or in a big colour spread in the glossies? Or do you want to raise your social media profile and online presence significantly?
Acting as your personal UK press office, I work with editors and journalists to build your profile on TV and radio, and in print and online, and keep you ahead of the competition.
To date, my personal PR clients have appeared pretty much everywhere from Vogue to Vanity Fair, The Times to The Financial Times, and Sky News to the BBC.
“Personal public relations is all about making high-achieving and talented people become better known and helping them manage and build their profile to help take them to the very top.” – Jill Kent, PR Superstar

I was hired by billion-dollar power couple Dr Ann Kaplan Mulholland and Dr Stephen Mulholland after they’d purchased 1,000-year-old Lympne Castle in Kent and wanted to return it to its former glory. Mother-of-eight Ann is already a household name in her native Canada, and is also set to star in a docu-reality TV series about their move to the UK. As part of a personal public relations campaign, I pitched the story of this charismatic reality television star to the British tabloids and broadsheet press, as well as glossy mags and TV, and they couldn’t get enough. Highlights so far have included a 12-page feature in HELLO! magazine and a lengthy spot on ITV1’s This Morning show, as well as numerous newspaper and magazine articles. Read more
