If you run a small business or a recent start-up, it’s easy to think that any kind of small business PR campaign is an unaffordable cost. Not so.
In fact, PR activity should be an essential part of your business costs, as much as equipment, premises and wages, and it should be a non-negotiable in your budget and marketing plans. Since I launched PR Superstar in 2008, I’ve worked with numerous small businesses and start-ups who have had to hit the ground running and get customers fast. A well-managed small business PR campaign is a cost-effective way to get known quickly and ramp up sales.
How does PR work for small businesses? It helps you establish credibility in your sector, builds trust with your customers, raises awareness at a local level and further afield, and builds your reputation and your brand.
“PR Superstar generated thousands of enquiries and bookings for our new business.” – Sofia Benke, co-founder and co-director, The Salt Cave
When you work with me, you work with a highly experienced PR pro who is also a senior NCTJ-trained news journalist. That combination of journo and public relations expert is still relatively unique, and it means I understand what makes the news, how to craft and package compelling stories, and how to talk the ‘language’ of journalists.
Although I work with bloggers and influencers, my love for print and broadcast media never dwindles. It’s fast-paced, endlessly fascinating and constantly challenging. Thanks to my ‘nose’ for a good story and long-term relationships with journalists, editors and broadcasters, I achieve top-tier coverage in local, national and international media, from The Times to The New York Times, Vanity Fair to Vogue, and the BBC to The FT.
As an experienced UK PR expert, I offer a range of flexible public relations services for small businesses that help put you and your company on the map.
I start the process by discovering what makes your small business different. How did the business start? Has your small business made an impact on your local community? Or does your company have national – even international – appeal? Then I design and deliver a results-driven PR campaign specifically for your business.
“For my small business clients, I make sure that every penny of their PR budget works hard in order to get them the coverage they want, in order to get them the customers they need.” – Jill Kent, PR Superstar

I was hired by London-based The Salt Cave to launch its natural health centre to the press and to publicise this healthy alternative to pharmaceutical drugs to its target audience. My small business PR campaign invited journalists with asthma and allergies to experience The Salt Cave for themselves. Coverage was extensive, it was national as well as global, with every UK national newspaper from The Sun to The Sunday Times covering it, as well as the BBC, ITV and even CNN in the States.
As a result of the successful PR campaign, more than 25,000 adults and children have now visited The Salt Cave, and this small business has grown to a chain of successful caves across the UK. Read more.
