Pied à Terre and L’Autre Pied

“PR Superstar is a breath of fresh air. Jill Kent delivers more in the first six hours than PR agencies do in the first six months! Jill is driven, connected, no-nonsense and importantly, really focused on results. I love you Jill…”

Background and Brief

I was recommended to food entrepreneur and celebrity restaurateur David Moore after he was let down by a number of big-name PR firms including a specialist food PR agency.

The founder and owner of Michelin-starred Pied à Terre and L’Autre Pied in London’s West End, is a celebrated restaurateur, food writer and TV personality on the likes of BBC1 Masterchef and BBC2 series The Restaurant. He asked me to raise his personal profile – and in doing so, those of his restaurants – to drive bookings, in what is one of the most competitive industries in the world. I was also asked to handle the PR for his pop-up restaurant Pieds Nus, as well as his Michelin restaurants, his head chefs and the team.

Campaign and Results

In all press materials, I focused on the highs and lows of Moore’s extraordinary 30-year career in the global hospitality industry; a career he began working with his former mentor and long-time friend Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, where Moore worked his way up from waiter to assistant restaurant manager. I covered Moore’s dramatic fight back from near financial ruin after his first restaurant famously burnt to the ground, to single-handedly creating two of Britain’s most successful independent restaurants. And I highlighted the fact he’s the only restaurant owner who has made a name in the media from the service side.

I invited various journalists and producers from The Times, The FT, ITV and CNBC to interview Moore over a Michelin-starred lunch at Pied à Terre, where they were also given a VIP tour of the kitchens. Other writers enjoyed 1-2-1 cookery lessons with Moore’s superstar chefs.

As a result, I gained acres of coverage for both of Moore’s restaurants, with angles ranging from Pied à Terre’s £100,000 refurbishment to its annual ‘Artist-in-Restaurant’ exhibition, together with profile pieces on head chefs Marcus Eaves and Andy McFadden. Moore and his head chefs appeared in countless national newspapers and enjoyed appearances on TV cookery shows including Channel 4 Sunday Brunch and ITV This Morning.

I also launched sister pop-up Pieds Nus, which Britain’s most notorious restaurant critic AA Gill came to review for The Sunday Times Magazine. It sold out every evening.
